Best Apps for New Puppy Owners in 2026: Training, Routine, Health

By the Pettify Team · Published

Prices and ratings checked on 17 Oct 2026, US App Store

Pettify is our app. Here is how we compared.

We make Pettify, which keeps a puppy’s health record and care plan. Most apps on this page do a different job, such as training lessons or first aid, so read it as a kit list rather than a contest. We used only what each developer publishes in the US App Store and on its own website, listed the apps alphabetically, and show what Pettify does not do in the same table.

The first months with a puppy bring three jobs at once: teaching the basics, keeping a routine of meals, naps and potty trips, and staying on top of vaccinations and vet visits. None of the seven apps below says it does all three. Most owners end up with two: one for training and one for the routine or the health record. Here is what each does, by its developer’s own description.

How we compared

We checked every app on 17 Oct 2026. Prices, in-app purchases, ratings, the date of the latest version and the number of languages come from each app’s page in the US App Store. Features come from the App Store description and, where the table says “Website”, the developer’s own site; Android availability comes from Google Play. Prices are in US dollars.

We picked apps for the jobs a new puppy brings rather than one kind of app. We searched the US App Store for “new puppy”, “puppy training” and “pet first aid”, and chose four training apps with thousands of ratings each, a puppy schedule app, the American Red Cross first aid app and Pettify. Apps for finding a puppy, a sitter or a walker are not included.

We did not install these apps. A “Yes” is what the developer states; “Not stated” means we did not find it in the description or on the website, and the app may still have it. “No” appears only in Pettify’s column, because we know our own app (version 1.2.0, the release with the pee and poop log).

Apps are listed alphabetically, with no overall score, and the quick picks are our judgement. We drafted this page with AI assistance from the sources linked in each card and checked every price, rating and feature against them.

Side by side

What each app is for comes first, then training, routine and health. Under each “Yes” is where the developer says it.

Frequently asked questions

Which apps does a new puppy owner need?

Usually two or three that do different jobs: a training app such as Zigzag, Puppr, Dogo or Pupford; something for the daily routine and potty trips, such as Pup to Date; and a place for vaccinations and vet visits, such as Pettify, which is our app. Pet First Aid from the American Red Cross is free and worth having before you need it.

Is there a free app for new puppy owners?

Pet First Aid lists no in-app purchases, and Zigzag says some of its learning content is free. Dogo and Zigzag Premium start with a 7-day free trial, and Puppr says its Premium unlocks all lessons and live chat. Pettify has no free version: $4.99 a month, or $49.99 a year with a 7-day free trial.

Which puppy training app lets you ask a real trainer?

Puppr and Zigzag both describe 24/7 chat with trainers or coaches in their paid plans. Dogo says its trainers review the training videos you send. Pupford offers a free private community of owners; trainer chat is not mentioned.

Can one app cover training and health records?

None of these seven says it does both. The training apps do not mention vaccination reminders or health records, and Pettify has no training lessons. Most owners pair a training app with one for the routine or the health record.

Are these apps only for puppies?

No. Dogo and Puppr are written for dogs as well as puppies, and Pet First Aid covers dogs and cats. Zigzag focuses on puppyhood. Pettify’s care plan changes as your pet grows and tells you when your puppy grows up.

Why is Pettify on this list?

Because we make it, and it covers one of the jobs: vaccinations, vet visits and a care plan. We say so at the top, list the apps alphabetically, and show in the same table what Pettify does not do: no training lessons, no first aid guide, no potty reminders, no free version and only 3 ratings.
