Editorial policy
Pettify makes a pet care app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision Pro. On this site we also publish articles, reference guides, printable templates and free tools for pet owners. This page explains who writes them, how we check them and where the line between advice and advertising is.
Who we are
The blog is written by the team that builds Pettify. We sell a subscription to the app, so we have a commercial interest in what we publish, and we want you to know that before you read on.
How we choose topics
We write about the everyday side of pet care: routines, records, vet visits, medications, travel, sitters and households with more than one pet. Topics come from questions owners actually ask in search, in vet clinic FAQs and in messages to our support. We do not publish a page for a search term we cannot answer better than what is already out there.
Who writes and checks
- Articles signed Pettify Team are written and edited by people on our team. A named author is shown when one person wrote the article.
- Articles that give health advice (vaccination schedules, parasite treatment, medicines and doses, symptoms, senior care) are published only after a review by a licensed veterinarian, who is named on the article with their qualifications. Until we work with a reviewer, we do not publish them. Articles about organising care, such as keeping records or storing medicines safely, give no such advice and send you to your vet for it.
- Nothing is published without a person on the team signing it off. Our publishing system enforces this: an article without that sign-off, or a health article without a veterinary review, cannot go live.
How we use AI
We use AI tools for parts of the work and say which parts at the end of every article, under “How this article was made”. AI may help us collect and summarise sources, propose a structure, write a first draft from our brief and the listed sources, and draft a translation.
A person on the team always:
- checks every fact and number against its source and removes what cannot be sourced;
- edits the text and rewrites what reads as generic;
- decides whether it is published.
We do not invent authors, experiences, quotes, statistics or reviews. We do not use AI-generated photos of animals in health articles or AI-generated portraits of people.
Sources
We prefer, in this order:
- guidelines of veterinary associations (such as AAHA, WSAVA, AAFP, CAPC and ESCCAP) and official guidance of governments;
- peer-reviewed research and veterinary reference works;
- established organisations, clinics and services, for practical context.
Every article lists its sources at the end. When sources disagree, we say so and explain what the answer depends on.
What our articles do not do
They do not diagnose, prescribe or give medicine doses. They help you prepare and keep track; they do not replace your veterinarian.
Pettify in our articles
We mention Pettify where it helps with the task in the article, and we describe only what the current version of the app does. We do not accept paid placements. If that ever changes, sponsored links will be labelled on the page.
Data from the app
We do not publish data about Pettify users. If we ever publish figures from the app, they will be aggregated and anonymous, with the method explained, and covered by our privacy policy.
Updates and corrections
Every article shows when it was published and last updated. When we change facts or advice, we add a line to the article’s change log.
